House networking
New build
The best time to get your house surveyed is when it is on the drawing board. This helps avoid simple but expensive mistakes.
Even if you are well onto your build, you can get your Electrician to contact us for a networking instructure deployment plan, of which there is a basic outline here.
Existing house.
In both cases
Underground network wiring to a disconnected building on site.
Disconnected buildings like sheds or a garage or any building not connected directly to your house may be wired to your internet service in your House.
For all exterior networking, only use exterior grade network cable. It is waterproof and the sheath contains a replant to stop creatures form trying to eat it.
Join your buildings with a suitable underground trunking. Rope it if possible. The end in your house should be beside the Router or switch/hub. Cable length up to 50 Meters is fine but if you need longer, you should use a good quality exterior grade CAT6 or higher cable.
There may be interference from mains cables which can affect signal quality so get exterior grade, shielded CAT6 cable if in doubt.
Overhead cables
If you must use overhead cables, use a guy wire between the 2 buildings to hold up the network cable. Network cable is not very good at supporting itself. Use exterior grade tye wrapps to make sure the network cable does not saag or get stretched.
Wireless connections between your house and other buildings
This is your last resort. To do this, you will need a pair of wireless access points – one configured as a ‘Wireless Access Point’ (WAP) and the other configured as the ‘Client’. Both should be set to dynamic IP. Prices are relative to the speed you need. The 2 WAPS should be able to see each other – line of sight and there should be no trees blocking the signal.
Phone for site survey and pricing.
